Interest from a club like Real Madrid is always flattering, but Bayern Munich was always on the top of the list, Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has stated.

The 25-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich in January, agreeing on a five-year deal with the German giants which is to be finalised in June.

Spanish giants Real Madrid had also shown keen interest in signing the highly talented striker, but in the end Lewandowski chose Bayern Munich to remain in Germany.

"Of course you are flattered when a club like Real show interest, but Bayern were top of my list," Lewandowski told UEFA's official site.

"This is an ideal place for me, the best club to make another big step in my career."

Language also played a pivotal role in selecting Bayern Munich over Real Madrid, the former Lech Poznan player adds.

"I won't need time to adapt as far as the language is concerned, I know the Bundesliga and I am pretty sure it will help me.

"I believe I can help the club win more trophies."

Lewandowski scored a total of 103 goals 185 matches for Borussia Dortmund between 2010 and 2014.
