Juan Mata expects Manchester United to be back competing for the Premier League title next season under the stewardship of Louis van Gaal.

The current Holland national team coach is taking charge at Old Trafford on a three-year contract after the World Cup – and he will take over a side that finished seventh in the Premier League last season, a steep fall from the first place recorded in 2012/13.

Mata joined Manchester United from Chelsea in January and now faces next season outside the Champions League.

But he does not expect Manchester United's decline to last.
