Liverpool are closing in on Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers seeks to address his problematic full-back spot.

Rodgers was deprived of the services of Jose Enrique for much of the season through injury, being forced to field the inexperienced Jon Flanagan.

Now he is closing on adding Spain international Moreno to his ranks, with Liverpool having offered €22m for the defender, according to Spanish daily Marca.

It had seemed that Liverpool's young Spanish midfielder Suso would be included in the deal in the form of a loan, but with the higher fee, that has been dropped.

Moreno is rated as one of the finest young full-backs in European football and has had several clubs on his tail, Napoli having had an offer for his services knocked back in January.

The 21-year-old was part of Spain coach Vicente del Bosque's initial 30-man World Cup squad, but did not make the final 23-man list.

For Liverpool that is an advantage, meaning a deal for Moreno can be pushed through quickly and the Spaniard could soon join Rickie Lambert at Anfield; the striker completed his switch from Southampton to Liverpool today.
