Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini has all but ruled out a return to Italian football this summer, believing no club in Serie A can afford to pay the salary he earns at the Stadium of Light.

Giaccherini joined the Black Cats last summer from Italian champions Juventus and helped the club avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, along with reaching the League Cup final.

The 29-year-old failed to make Italy's World Cup squad though and it has been suggested his international chances would be boosted by a return home.

However, despite interest from Napoli, Giaccherini cannot see a switch materialising.
