Napoli are ready to tussle with Inter Milan to acquire Erik Lamela on loan from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Lamela joined Spurs last season from Roma for a club record transfer fee of £25.8m, plus up to £4.2m in bonus payments, on a five-year contract.

However, the Argentine has failed to live up to his price and has so far flattered to deceive in a Tottenham shirt.

It is believed that Tottenham, who were initially reluctant to part with the 22-year-old, have warmed up to the idea of loaning him amidst the interest from Italy.

Lamela’s performances for Roma before joining Spurs have generated interest at a number of Italian clubs and Inter are believed to be the top contenders to sign the Argentine this summer.

However, Napoli are also interested in a loan deal for Lamela and are ready to challenge the Nerazzurri for the former River Plate winger’s signature, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tottenham’s club record signing has struggled to showcase his talent at White Hart Lane this season and he might well be interested in a move back to Italy to revive his young career.
