French national team manager Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Franck Ribery has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a back injury.

The Bayern Munich winger is an experienced member of the French national squad but Les Bleus will go into the World Cup without the 31-year-old.

Ribery has faced injury troubles this season at Bayern Munich and had to undergo surgery in February for a burst blood vessel in his buttocks.

Deschamps has also confirmed that Lyon’s Clement Grenier will miss the tournament with an abductor injury.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin and Montpellier’s Remy Cabella have been called up as replacements.

Ribery has appeared in two World Cups for France in 2006 and 2010 and has earned 80 international caps for his country.
