Ajax captain Siem de Jong has confirmed that Newcastle United are interested in signing him and said that they had “a little chat” with his agent.

Newcastle signed Siem’s brother, Luuk de Jong, on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach on January this year but the Dutchman returned to Germany without scoring a goal.

The 25-year-old Ajax midfielder has only one year left on his contract and has said that his future with the Dutch champions still remains unresolved.

“I do not know what to do. I've talked with Ajax, but nothing is resolved”, De Jong told Soccer News.

“Newcastle had a little chat with my agent. There had been previous contact, but nothing concrete has been agreed. Newcastle is a great club.”
