Glen Johnson believes that Raheem Sterling has the potential to become England’s secret weapon in the World Cup.

Sterling produced some stellar performances in a Liverpool shirt last season and is going into the World Cup in a rich vein of form.

Johnson believes that the young winger has the potential to be England’s secret weapon and if their opponents underestimate him, he could become a major threat in Brazil.

"Hopefully he can [become England’s secret weapon]. That would be ideal if people don't know what he is capable of and people underestimate him a bit", Johnson told the FA.

"That would definitely work in our favour. Hopefully people will underestimate him and then he can prove them wrong.”

The full-back praised Sterling’s performance last season and believes that he has the attitude to develop even more as a player.

"He has looked good all year. He is a young kid who is willing to learn about the game and he should just get better."

Sterling made his England debut in November 2012 in a friendly away to Sweden and has already earned four caps for the Three Lions.
