Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal is doubtful to start for his nation in their World Cup opener against Australia on 13th June in Cuiaba.

The Juventus player, who has been struggling with inflammation in his knee since undergoing an operation on 7th May due to a meniscus problem, did not train with his team-mates yesterday.

The 28-year-old trained separately, while the rest of the Chile squad trained normally together, including Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, who was suffering from a shoulder problem.

Vidal, who made a surprise 15 minutes appearance in last Wednesday's 2-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland, has not since been able to train with his team-mates.

And tests carried out on Saturday revealed that Vidal had inflammation under his right kneecap.

The midfielder scored 18 goals in all competitions for Juventus in the 2013/14 season, and is a vital member of the Chilean squad, who will face Spain and Netherlands in their other Group B matches on 18th and 23rd June respectively.
