Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller have extended their contracts with Bayern Munich by another two years, the Bundesliga champions have confirmed.

Lahm will now remain with the Bavarians until 2018, while Muller's new deal runs for a further year.

And Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was delighted after the duo put pen to paper on their new deals.

"Both Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller are very important building blocks of FC Bayern”, he told his club’s official site.

“Both have remained loyal to the club since the start of their careers and will play a major role in the future.

“We are very happy that both players have chosen Bayern Munich for the long term.”

30-year-old Lahm, who has amassed more than 400 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich, revealed that he is very happy as his wish of ending his career at the Allianz Stadium will now become a reality.

“It is definitely my last contract, I will finish my career at Bayern. That was always my wish. I am very glad and happy", he said.

Muller, who was rumoured to be unsettled at Bayern Munich and had demanded assurances about the club over his future, also expressed his delight at securing a long-term contract with the German champions.

The Manchester United-linked forward believes he is at the right club as he feels Bayern Munich have put a lot of faith in him.

"I am very happy to have extended shortly before the World Cup start my contract at Bayern until 2019", said Muller.

"There were very good discussions with the leaders of the club, who made me realise that I am in the right place here.

“I have the feeling I am an important part of the plans at the club. FC Bayern Munich have been my club since 2000 and it will remain that way in the coming years. "

Both players are currently gearing up to represent Germany in the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
