West Brom are still in talks with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood about him becoming their new boss.

Sherwood has been interviewed for the role and there were suggestions that a deal is all but done, with the only delay being the agreement of personal terms for the former midfielder's assistants Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey.

However, while Sherwood is the firm favourite to take over, he is not the only candidate, according to ITV, with at least one other name under serious consideration.

The Baggies had been hoping to be able to announce their new manager yesterday, but talks are continuing into the weekend.

The Premier League side parted company with Spaniard Pepe Mel at the end of last season, despite the former Real Betis boss having been in charge for less than six months.

Mel left blaming his exit on not being willing to compromise his footballing principals at the club.

"I would not compromise my playing philosophy, but the Premier League was still an amazing experience that everyone should try", Mel said.

"But Englishmen live football in a different way. Not better, but a different way."
