Out-of-favour Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa could leave St. James' Park to head to the Middle East.

Ben Arfa slipped out of the first team picture under Alan Pardew at Newcastle last season and is now thought to be considering options to make his escape from Tyneside.

According to French broadcaster beINSports, the former Marseille man has a lucrative offer on the table from a club in Qatar and may move to the Middle East.

The winger, who was tipped to reach the very top of world football as a youngster, has struggled to hit those heights and scored just three goals in 27 Premier League appearances for the Magpies last term.

Ben Arfa, who was strongly linked with Liverpool last summer, brushed off talk of leaving Newcastle in December, despite being frozen out.

"A departure from Newcastle? That question is valid right now. But I am not thinking about it", Ben Arfa said.

"I'm under contract to Newcastle and I feel good."

However, the situation may have changed for the winger, especially in light of his failure to head to the World Cup with France.
