La Liga side Celta Vigo are aiming to snap up Gary Medel from relegated Cardiff City this summer.

The Welsh side could not avoid the drop from the Premier League last season and will play in the Championship in the new campaign.

Medel, a Chile international and former Sevilla midfielder, is unlikely to stick around for second tier football.

And according to El Faro de Vigo, the 26-year-old is wanted by Celta Vigo as a priority signing.

Affording Medel, a player Cardiff paid £11m to sign just last summer, could prove difficult, but Celta Vigo are confident the Welsh side will accept a cut-price deal.

Medel is currently at the World Cup in Brazil with Chile and his future is expected to be resolved upon his return.

The midfielder started his career in his homeland before joining Argentine giants Boca Juniors in 2009. He then moved on to Sevilla for a two-year stint.
