Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan has undergone a back operation and is expected to make his comeback in three months.

Gundogan has been out of action since August last year due to a back injury and is expected to miss the start of next season.

This latest surgery was carried out to solve the German’s long-term back problem and the doctors are hopeful that he will be able to take the field in September, according to Bild.

The 23-year-old has been troubled with an inflamed nerve in his back and was also ruled out of Germany’s World Cup squad due to the injury.

Gundogan has so far made 84 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists.
