Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes that Luis Suarez was the difference between England and Uruguay last night.

Suarez scored a brace to secure a 2-1 win for Uruguay and left England on the verge of elimination from the World Cup.

Redknapp, who was in the mix for the England job while at Spurs, concedes that Suarez was the difference between the two sides and he was also the best player on the pitch last night.

"Luis Suarez was the difference”, the QPR manager told BBC Radio 4.

“Uruguay brought back a world-class player and his goals were fantastic. He is better than anything we have.”

Redknapp feels that England should be particularly disappointed as they were beaten by two average teams.

The 67-year-old is also not confident that England can beat Costa Rica in their final group game next week.

"But it has been disappointing. I think it was an average Italy we lost to last week and last night, against a very poor Uruguay, we got undone.

“The way we are going you wouldn't bet against us beating Costa Rica.”

England still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the next round. They need Italy win their next two group games and then they would have to win against Costa Rica by a handsome margin to scrape through to the next round.
