Napoli have rejected an initial offer of €55m from Barcelona for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Barcelona have been following Higuain for some time now and the club are exploring options to bring the striker to Catalonia this summer.

The former Real Madrid man conceded earlier this week that being linked with Barcelona was flattering for him and he would relish an opportunity to play for the Catalan giants.

However, Napoli have rejected an initial offer of €55m from Barcelona for the 26-year-old hitman.

The Italian club are demanding €70m for the Argentine striker and are not ready to accept anything less than the quoted figure, according to Spanish daily Marca.

The Blaugrana are desperate to sign a number 9 this summer and the former Real Madrid is a top target due to his knowledge of Spanish football.

However, Barcelona are not willing to invest €70m on a single player this summer as it is beyond their transfer budget for a striker.

Negotiations are ongoing between the clubs, but it might require Higuain to force Napoli’s hand if he wants to play in Barcelona colours next season.
