Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela believes that pre-season friendlies are important as they help players "get into a rhythm" ahead of domestic season.

The 22-year-old contributed to the scoresheet twice as his team overpowered Toronto FC with a 3-2 scoreline on Wednesday.

This performance was particularly significant as it was Lamela's first appearance for the club since December, when he was forced out of the team with a back injury.

And the Argentine is impressed by the way he managed to perform during the match after having been out for so long.

“I’m conscious that it’s only the start of the season and I have to continue to work hard. Overall, it was a good performance", Lamela told his club's official site.

"These matches are good competition for us and it’s a great way to get into a rhythm ahead of the Premier League.

“The tour also gives us time to build a real chemistry in the squad and I feel something special could happen next season.”

The Lilywhites take on Chicago Fire in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday.
