Manchester United target Stefan de Vrij has arrived in Rome to undergo a medical and complete his switch from Feyenoord to Lazio.

The Italian club confirmed yesterday that they have reached an agreement with Feyenoord over the Dutch defender.

The fee is reported to be €8.5m and De Vrij will sign a five-year contract with the club worth €1.3m per season, after he passes the medical.

Louis van Gaal was keen to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford this summer, but it seems Lazio have left Manchester United by the wayside in the race to sign the defender.

Despite being 22, De Vrij was a mainstay in Van Gaal’s Netherlands team that finished third in the World Cup this summer.
