Colombia international midfielder Carlos Sanchez is moving closer to a switch to English Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert's men are keen to snap up Sanchez, who was thought to have headed to England to undergo a medical with Villa yesterday.

And those thoughts have had further fuel poured on the fire today, with the midfielder not present at Elche training, according to Spanish daily Marca.

Elche have opened the door for Sanchez to leave should Aston Villa meet their asking price, thought to be €6m.

The Spanish side only snapped up the player last year from French outfit Valenciennes, splashing out €3.7m to secure his services.

However, he now looks set to quickly move on and sample English football in the Premier League at Villa Park.

Sanchez further boosted his credentials at the World Cup this summer, helping Colombia reach the quarter-finals of the competition in Brazil.
