Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia has advised his friend and PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay to continue his career in Holland for one more season.

The 20-year-old’s performances for Holland in the World Cup have attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal is keen to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford, but Spurs are ready to throw a spanner at the Dutchman’s works by securing the young winger’s signature from PSV.

However Elia, who left Twente for Hamburg in 2009, has asked Depay to have patience and play at PSV for one more season.

"I told him he should continue to play in the Netherlands for another year", Elia told Helden Online.

The former FC Twente man feels that another season at PSV will aid in his development as a footballer and he can build on the progress that he made last season both at club and international level.

“Currently, he is a supporting player at PSV but he can build on the performances he put up last season and at the World Cup, which will only help him.

“PSV and Depay suit each other and one more season at the club will only be good for his development.”
