Leeds United manager David Hockaday has been quick to salute the club's signing of Liam Cooper from Chesterfield, dubbing it "great business".

Hockaday has been pushing for more centre-backs to be signed by the Yorkshire giants after the sale of Tom Lees to Sheffield Wednesday left him with just two senior central defenders to choose from.

Leeds are signing Catania defender Giuseppe Bellusci on loan and have now completed the capture of 22-year-old Cooper.

And Hockaday is delighted, feeling the signing will prove to be a smart move on the part of the Elland Road outfit.

"Liam has lots of potential as a defender", Hockaday told his club's site.

"He has a great left foot and bringing him to the club is great business", the boss added.

Hockaday got a close look at Cooper in pre-season, with Leeds having locked horns with Chesterfield in a 2-2 draw.
