Southampton have confirmed the departure of striker Billy Sharp to Championship side Leeds United.

The 28-year-old Sheffield-born hitman had been strongly linked with a switch to Elland Road and his move has now been officially announced by the Saints.

Southampton said via a statement: "Billy Sharp has joined Leeds United for an undisclosed fee. Good luck for the future, Billy!"

Sharp spent last term enjoying loan spells with Reading and Doncaster Rovers in the Championship, and had been declared surplus to requirements by Southampton.

The striker will now bid to fire Leeds to the Premier League and arrives at Elland Road with a strong goalscoring record.
