West Ham look set to miss out on the signing of Diafra Sakho unless they improve their offering to the striker's club side Metz.

The Hammers are keen on snapping up Sakho, who top scored in Ligue 2 last season and has been linked with both Newcastle United and Liverpool.

West Ham had agreed a transfer with Metz for the 24-year-old, Sakho even heading to London and passing a medical with Sam Allardyce's men.

But according to French sports daily L'Equipe, the Hammers changed their proposal to an initial loan deal, with a purchase option.

And that has not met with Metz's approval, leaving the club's board to recall Sakho.

The striker is now due back in France and Metz are in no mood to move on the deal unless West Ham propose a permanent transfer.

Sakho hit the back of the net 20 times in Ligue 2 for Metz last term, helping the club win promotion to Ligue 1.
