West Ham have announced the signing of striker Diafra Sakho from French outfit Metz.

The Hammers have pounced to snap up last year's joint top scorer in Ligue 2, signing him to a four-year deal at Upton Park.

The move had been in doubt earlier this week when West Ham switched their approach to wanting Sakho on a season-long loan deal, a proposal Metz refused and which led the French side to recall the striker from a medical in London.

Now a deal has been done and Sakho joins the Hammers on a permanent basis.

The striker told the club's site: "This is a proud day to have signed for West Ham. I love English football and I've dreamed of playing for one of the big English clubs.
