Brendan Rodgers believes that Liverpool are finally in a position to attract Europe’s best talent to the club.

Liverpool came close to ending their 24-year league title drought last season and finished a close second to Premier League champions Manchester City, scoring over 100 goals.

Despite losing talismanic striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer, the Reds have made seven new signings and are in the market to sign a number of other players.

Rodgers believes that Liverpool’s style of play last season and a chance to play at Anfield is enough to attract the top European talents to the club.

"If you're a football player in Europe watching how we played last season and saw our supporters, your reaction would be that you'd want to play in that environment", the Liverpool manager told the club’s official site.

"That ability to attract top players is great.

“It's a huge indication of the progress of the club – a really good symbol of where the club is at. We have made huge strides in the last couple of years.”

Liverpool will welcome Southampton in their first league fixture this Sunday at Anfield.
