Ajax coach Frank de Boer admits that Liverpool could scupper his side's attempt to sign free agent Samuel Eto'o.

The Dutch champions are keen to hoover up Eto'o, who parted ways with Chelsea earlier this summer, and have put an offer in front of the veteran Cameroon hitman upon which they are waiting for his decision on.

A number of other clubs are also keen on Eto'o, but Ajax have Champions League football to offer, which they know excites the striker. However, with Liverpool having been linked with the 33-year-old, De Boer accepts the Reds can match Ajax on that front.

"I really have no idea [how much chance we have of signing him]", De Boer explained to a press conference today.

"I can't look inside his head. But if Liverpool were to knock, they also have Champions League matches and would also be very interesting for him, so it's just very hard to say."

The Ajax coach also insists that the club are not solely focusing on Eto'o and have other irons in the fire.

"Of course, we're also focusing on other strikers. We will make enquiries, but they will continue in private."

De Boer though well understands that the spotlight is on Eto'o, who was present at Ajax's game against Vitesse last weekend.

"We know that there's a lot of attention and interest in him. It's understandable for such a player. We're certainly not the only ones [interested], but I think he'll make his choice on how he feels. We'll wait and see."
