Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has ruled out selling Morgan Schneiderlin to Tottenham Hotspur and insists the 24-year-old will remain at St. Mary's.

Schneiderlin is wanted at White Hart Lane by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino and the player himself has indicated he wishes to leave to link up with the Argentine tactician.

However, Southampton are standing firm over keeping hold of the France international midfielder and Koeman is confident Schneiderlin will still be at the club when the summer transfer window slams shut.

Asked whether he is sure the Saints will keep Schneiderlin amid interest from Spurs, Koeman told a press conference: "Yes, because he's not for sale."

The former Feyenoord coach also praised the week's training Schneiderlin has put in for the club ahead of their Premier League opener away at Liverpool on Sunday.

"He had a good week of training sessions.

"We know the situation. Last week he wasn't in shape to play, he had a very good week session and that decision [over whether he plays against Liverpool] will be taken tomorrow."

Koeman also suggested he expects Southampton to sign one or two more players before the window slams shut, with the wing a particular concern.

"First of all, I am very pleased because the club did everything to bring in new players.

"But we're still looking to bring one or two players in, in the wing position we need a player."
