Juan Mata has insisted that Manchester United will learn lessons from their bad result this weekend.

The Red Devils suffered an opening day 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City on Saturday at Old Trafford and Mata admits that the result was disheartening.

“It was a big disappointment, that’s the truth”, the Spaniard wrote on his personal blog.

The former Valencia man feels that Manchester United need to learn from their mistakes on Saturday and move forward.

He further added a lot more effort is needed from the squad for the rest of the season and they need to keep striving for improvement over the course of the campaign.

“We were hoping to make a good Premiership debut in Old Trafford, but it is also true that this is just the beginning. We need to set a regular pace and learn from our mistakes.

“In order to get to our goals, the goals this club and our supporters deserve, we know we have to be better than we were on Saturday. Anything you want to achieve, you need to put a lot of effort in it and that is what we are going to do.”

Mata insisted that the squad will learn from the result against the Welsh side and produce better results in the future.

“Learning from a bad result will make the team grow and move forward in this new stage.”
