Xabi Alonso has wished Real Madrid team-mate Angel di Maria the best of luck at Manchester United, despite being a former Liverpool player himself.

Alonso, who moved to Real Madrid from Liverpool in 2009, has played alongside Di Maria since the Argentine transferred to Los Blancos from Benfica in 2010.

That association is set to come to an end imminently however, with Di Maria expected to undergo a medical at Manchester United early next week after the Red Devils agreed a fee with Real Madrid for his services.

And midfielder Alonso has wished the winger luck at Old Trafford.

"Thanks for everything Noodle!" Alonso said via his Twitter account; Di Maria is nicknamed the Noodle at Real Madrid.
