Sunderland are looking at Lille striker Salomon Kalou as an alternative to Liverpool's Fabio Borini, if they cannot tempt the Italian to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats had an offer for Borini accepted by Liverpool earlier this summer, but the former Roma man has taken his time over deciding whether to return to the club at which he spent last term on loan.

Poyet said today following Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Manchester United that he expects a final outcome on the club's chase for Borini soon.

But Sunderland have other irons in the fire and according to Sky Italia, are weighing up a move for Lille's Kalou.

Lille are open to selling Kalou for the right price, thought to be around just €5m.
