Brendan Rodgers feels that Spain international Alberto Moreno will improve the Liverpool first team straight away.

The 22-year-old full-back joined the Reds from Europa League winners Sevilla earlier this month.

Moreno is expected to make his debut against Manchester City tonight at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

And the Northern Irishman believes that the Spaniard is a great talent and confirmed that Liverpool kept a close eye on his development for some time before making an approach.

"He has got huge potential", Rodgers told the club’s official site.

"We needed a left-sided player. We monitored him for a while and when we felt we got the value and the worth, we were able to clinch the deal."

The former Swansea boss praised the full-back’s attacking instincts and feels he will improve the Liverpool first team squad with his involvement straight away.

"He's a really exciting young player. When you watch him, he's very attack-minded, very quick and he serves the ball really well.

"At 22, he's hungry to succeed. He has got improvements to make but he's one of the players we've brought in this summer who is ready to play straight away.”
