Nigel Pearson is still hopeful that Leicester City will be able to sign former Argentina midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

Reports of Leicester’s interest in the Argentine midfield general emerged earlier this month and it is believed that the newly-promoted Premier League outfit have made significant progress towards signing the 34-year-old.

Cambiasso left Inter Milan this summer after his contract expired, ending his ten-year long association with the Nerazzurri.

The Foxes are keen to add the experienced midfielder to their squad as they are looking to build a team that will help them to survive in the English top flight this season.

Pearson confirmed that the club are still after Cambiasso and he is positive that a deal can be agreed this week.

"Cambiasso is still a possibility”, the 51-year-old was quoted as saying by ITV.

“There's been progress over the weekend so I'm more hopeful than I was on Friday and Saturday but until there is a definitive answer I'm loath to talk too much.

“But I am hopeful it can be done in next couple of days.”

Cambiasso made 427 appearances for Inter and won a Champions League at the club amongst various other honours. He also earned 52 international caps for Argentina.
