Manchester United are eager to close out the deal to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid by tomorrow evening, but the Argentine won't be able to face MK Dons in the League Cup.

A transfer fee is believed to have been agreed between both clubs and it is set to breach the British record fee of £50m that Chelsea paid to Liverpool to sign Fernando Torress in January 2011.

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed yesterday that the Argentine visited the Real Madrid the training ground to bid farewell to his team-mates.

Di Maria is expected to arrive in Manchester later today to undergo a medical before signing on the dotted line with the 20-time English champions.

Manchester United ideally want to close out the deal for the 26-year-old within the next 24 hours, with 36 hours the maximum time they expect the deal to take, according to the Press Association.

However, the deal is not expected to be completed on time to allow the Argentine to line up for the Red Devils against MK Dons tomorrow in a League Cup match.

If everything goes according to plan Di Maria will make his Manchester United debut on Saturday against Burnley.
