Manchester United defender Phil Jones has praised his young defensive partners’ performance against Sunderland yesterday.

The Red Devils’ slow start to the campaign continued with a 1-1 draw against the Black Cats yesterday at the Stadium of Light.

Although disappointed with the result, Jones feels that his young defensive colleagues did a good job against Sunderland in the Premier League clash.

"Both of them did a really great job", the defender told MUTV.

"Tyler [Blackett] looked very comfortable and Mike [Michael Keane] came on and did equally well. Defensively they were very good."

Chris Smalling limped off with an injury just before half time and Keane took his place in Manchester United’s three-man defence.

Jonny Evans is another central defender who has been sidelined due to an injury; Rafael and Luke Shaw are also out due to injuries.

"It’s not what we want [defensive injuries mounting] but these things happen and we’ve just got to adapt and move on."

Manchester United will take on League One side MK Dons tomorrow at Stadium MK in a League Cup match.
