Celtic manager Ronny Deila has insisted he understands the fans' anger after the Scottish giants crashed out of the Champions League this evening.

The Bhoys headed into the second leg of their Champions League playoff tie against Slovenian outfit NK Maribor with the scores level at 1-1.

Celtic were in the driving seat, courtesy of the away goal, but found themselves undone at Celtic Park as Maribor grabbed a goal through Morales Tavares in the 57th minute.

Deila's men had no answer and Maribor progress in the Champions League 2-1 on aggregate, while Celtic drop into the Europa League.

"We lifted ourselves in the second half but they scored with their first chance. This is a hard feeling. There are no excuses", Deila said via his club's feed.

"I know we will build a good team with some signings. We have been a little unlucky with injuries.

"I understand the fans' anger. We haven't been good enough.

"We want to be in the Champions League but Europa League is a good competition."

However, despite no Champions League income now flowing into the club's coffers, Deila does still intend to make signings before the transfer window closes.

"We could have two new signings for Monday", he said.
