Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan believes that the club's new signing Mario Balotelli is "a good lad" and has backed the striker to turn on the style at Anfield.

Last season's Premier League runners-up completed the capture of Balotelli from AC Milan last week, splashing out £16m to sign a player who has previously played in the English top flight, with Manchester City.

Flanagan, who attended Liverpool's clash against Manchester City in the company of Balotelli, is full of praise for the 24-year-old.

"Mario is a good lad. I travelled down to the game with him and he seems a nice guy", Flanagan told his club's site.

"We all hope he will do well for us. I think he's going to a big success here. He's a big lad, he's strong and he's a goalscorer."

Flanagan also dismissed concerns Liverpool's 3-1 defeat away at Manchester City will produce a hangover which they will carry into their next clash.

"The mood in the squad is still good. There were a lot of positives we could take from the City game.

"We were disappointed we didn't get anything out of it but the lads will be ready for Spurs."

Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur this coming weekend.
