Interim Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has talked up the talent of young midfielder Lewis Cook, who he threw into the lion's den, starting the youngster against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday..

Cook helped the Yorkshire giants on their way to a 1-0 Championship win over the Trotters and Redfearn was full of praise for the 17-year-old, a player he knows well.

"I thought Lewis Cook was the best player on the pitch by a mile", Redfearn told LUTV.

"To be honest with you it wasn't a difficult decision [to play him]; he's a top player and he's going to be an outstanding young player.

"He's got half a yard of pace and it gets him into tackles and gets into second balls. And his range of passing is there to be seen", he continued.

"He's such a level-headed kid. I told the president before the beginning of the season that playing at Elland Road won't faze him."

Redfearn is currently keeping the hotseat warm while Leeds look for a new manager, having parted company with David Hockaday following a string of poor results under the former Forest Green Rovers boss.

The interim manager has refused to be drawn on whether he wishes to be considered for the role on a permanent basis.
