Antonio Conte has revealed that he will not gift a place in the Italy squad to Mario Balotelli.

The newly-appointed Italy manager left out the Liverpool striker from the national team squad that was announced yesterday.

The 24-year-old, who joined Liverpool from AC Milan last week, was widely criticised for his performances in the World Cup where Italy crashed out in the group stage.

Conte, who is looking to revive the fortunes of the Italian team, named his squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifier, but found no place for Balotelli.

“I have no pre-determined opinions on Balotelli”, the former Juventus manager was quoted as saying by ANSA.

Conte said that he is not going to gift a place in the squad to anyone and players who are dropped can always return.

“I do not gift anything to anyone and I said that those who are not there now can return and vice versa.”

The Azzurri will travel to Norway for their first European Championship qualifier on 9th September.
