Fiorentina president Mario Cognigni insists that no bids arrived for Juan Cuadrado over the summer, despite the Colombia international being linked with Barcelona and Manchester United.

Cuadrado was widely tipped to end up playing his football at the Camp Nou or Old Trafford this season after impressing at Fiorentina last term and then shining at the World Cup earlier this summer.

But Barcelona opted to buy Douglas from Sao Paulo after deeming Cuadrado to be too expensive, while Manchester United turned to Angel di Maria.

And Cognigni claims no concrete bid actually arrived for La Viola to consider.

"The club always had a firm conviction that we should keep him", the president told Sky Italia.

"He is a great player that will contribute towards La Viola's goals.

"We never wanted to sell him, but no bids from any club actually arrived."

Fiorentina acquired Cuadrado on an outright basis from fellow Italian side Udinese earlier this summer, but were open to cashing in on him for the right price.

It remains to be seen if clubs will move for the winger when the transfer window swings open once again in January.
