Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced that they have renewed the contract of defender Raphael Varane for six years.

The French defender has been heavily linked with a move out of the Santiago Bernabeu, with Premier League outfit Chelsea showing keen interest in securing the services of the player.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had even termed Varane a perfect long-term partner for 19-year-old countryman Kurt Zouma, who arrived at Chelsea this summer from Saint-Etienne.

However, with Los Blancos now having successfully negotiated a long-term contract with the player until June 2020, his immediate future seems to have been secured by the Spanish side.
