Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to try to conclude a deal for Victor Valdes as soon as possible after growing disillusioned with the recent performances of number one goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Belgian custodian has come under fire for his displays in Liverpool's lacklustre start to the season and could now find himself battling with Spain international Valdes for a spot in the starting eleven.

The Reds have been linked with Valdes, who is a free agent and can move outside the transfer window system, in recent months.

And according to ITV, Rodgers has resolved to stitch up a deal for the 32-year-old after being disappointed with Mignolet's displays between the sticks.

Rodgers believes Valdes' experience could prove crucial to Liverpool, while his presence may also inspire Mignolet to up his game.
