Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has dismissed continuing talk of a bid from Manchester United for Kevin Strootman in January.

Strootman is known to be highly rated by Louis van Gaal, who was only prevented from taking the midfielder to the World Cup with the Netherlands due to a cruciate ligament injury the Roma man picked up in March.

The Dutchman has still not made his return for Roma, though the Giallorossi expect him back and firing on all cylinders before the end of the year.

And Sabatini insists Roma are not looking to sell Strootman, going on to blame voices in England for continually stirring the transfer pot.

"The player is not on the market", Sabatini was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

"These rumours are always from the same English voices.

"He is one of our players and we expect him back. We are heavily focused on him."

Strootman has been a runaway success at Roma since signing from the club last summer from PSV Eindhoven.

The Italian giants paid around €20m to secure his signature.
