Fiorentina have handed midfielder Josip Ilicic an ultimatum: impress before the January transfer window or be sold.

Ilicic joined La Viola from Palermo last summer, with the Serie A outfit beating off interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool, to sign the Slovenian international for €9m.

The 26-year-old featured 21 times in Serie A for La Viola last term, while he has clocked up six appearances in the Italian top flight so far this season, mainly from the bench.

And Fiorentina are not pleased with Ilicic's performances, something which has led to them putting a time limit on his stay if he does not improve.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina will sell the midfielder to the highest bidder in January if he does not up his game.

There is interest in Ilicic, with Leeds United keen on a potential loan deal, while German club Freiburg are monitoring his situation.

And Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini could try to bring Ilicic back to the Serie A club, if Fiorentina are willing to accept substantially less than they paid to sign the Slovenian.
