Cristiano Ronaldo has bagged the top awards at Spanish top flight's annual gala last night.

He won La Liga’s Player of the Year award and also won trophies for best striker and best goal, for his back-heel against Valencia.

It is the first time that the Portuguese was able to beat Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to the Player of the Year award in Spain.

The Argentine maestro won all five previous best player awards since the prize was launched in the 2008/09 season.

"It is a very good moment in my career", the Portuguese was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Ronaldo was the top scorer in La Liga for the 2013/14 season with 31 goals, but failed to fire Real Madrid to the league title, which eventually went to their city rivals Atletico Madrid.

But Real Madrid dominated the individual awards, with the best defender award going to Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric bagged the best defensive midfielder award.
