Neil Redfearn has confirmed he is closing in on officially being appointed as Leeds United's new head coach.

The academy chief, who had a spell as caretaker boss earlier this season, has been taking training since Darko Milanic was sacked on Saturday, the Slovenian's reign lasting just 32 days.

Speaking at a press conference today, Redfearn confirmed he is "very close" to succeeding Milanic.

Redfearn also revealed he has the full support of the club's owner, Massimo Cellino, who sees him as Leeds' "future".

"I had a good chat with Massimo yesterday. He told me I am the future of the club", he added.

And the academy boss says he knows what it would mean to be appointed the permanent boss of Leeds.

"It's a massive honour. This is a massive football club, it's got a great tradition."

Redfearn will lead Leeds against Cardiff City on Saturday, but it remains to be seen if he will have been officially confirmed in his post by then.
