Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao feels that would be a ‘disgrace’ if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t win the 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or.

FIFA released the names of 23 players earlier this year, who are nominated for the accolade, with the ceremony to be held in January; the shortlist will be trimmed to three players before the winner is chosen.

UEFA president Michel Platini and many others have said that the Ballon d’Or this season should go to a German because of Germany’s triumph at the World Cup.

But Coentrao is having none of it and believes it would be a travesty if Ronaldo doesn’t win the award in January as he has been in remarkable form since last season.

He said that the difference is for the world to see and no one other than the former Manchester United man deserves the award this time around.

“[It would be a] disgrace if Cristiano didn’t win the Ballon d’Or”, Coentrao told A Bola.

“No matter how much campaigning they do, they’ll never change what the whole world has seen.

"There has never been a bigger difference between the best in the world and the number two.”
