Manchester United star Juan Mata has insisted he will try to maintain his goalscoring record over the busy festive period.

The Spaniard, who joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in January, scored six Premier League goals for his new employers last season.

Mata has also found the back of the net four times in the present campaign, thus making him the club’s third leading Premier League goalscorer of the calendar year, only behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

And Mata, who boasted of his good goalscoring record despite not being a striker, is keen to add more goals to his tally.

"I have always tried to score as many goals as I can", he told the club’s official site.

"Even though I’m not a proper striker, I have always had a good record at the end of the season with every team I have played for and right now I will try to keep scoring more.”

Mata, who has 33 caps and 10 goals for Spain to his name, scored 32 goals in 135 appearances in all competitions for his former club Chelsea, in addition to providing 58 assists.
