James Milner is poised to put pen to paper on a new contract at Manchester City.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to keep the England midfielder at the club and is hoping he will follow goalkeeper Joe Hart in agreeing a new deal.

Milner has less than a year to run on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium and Pellegrini is happy with the midfielder's performances for the Citizens this season.

"Milner, I hope that he will sign also. We will see, same as Joe, in the next days", Pellegrini was quoted as saying by ITV.

"I don't know how many days before we can have this as official news, but I suppose that also he will sign and continue here because he also wants to stay."

Milner's future had been cast into doubt over the summer due to a lack of playing time under Pellegrini last term.

However, the England midfielder has been handed a starting spot on 13 occasions this term, which suggests the Chilean now has faith in the 28-year-old.
