Aston Villa full-back Aly Cissokho feels Louis van Gaal’s decision to revert to playing three defenders has helped Manchester United recently.

Van Gaal started the season at Manchester United by playing three at the back and the results were not too positive.

Lack of form and injuries to key defenders forced the Dutchman to revert to a traditional back four, but in their last two wins against Southampton and Liverpool, Manchester United again played with three defenders and two marauding full-backs.

While the Dutchman has received criticism for too much tinkering this season, Cissokho feels his latest tactic has reaped rich dividends for Manchester United and they are getting better.

"Man Utd are getting better with every game. Their results show that”, Cissokho told the club’s official site.

"I think the new coach Van Gaal has given them a solution with the 5-3-2 formation.”

Villa will host Van Gaal’s in-form Red Devils tomorrow at home and the full-back is aware of the magnitude of the game.

While he acknowledges that Manchester United are in good form at the moment, he has stressed that the Villans are excited about the challenge of facing the Red Devils.

"It is a special game and I think it is going to be a tough game too”, the former Liverpool man added.

"Manchester United are one of the biggest in the world. So it is going to be a good challenge for us.

"But it is also an exciting challenge and one we are really looking forward to."
