Nicolas Gaitan's suitors have been warned they will have to have very deep pockets to take the attacking midfielder away from Benfica next month.

The Argentine has been linked with a whole host of clubs over the last nine months, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Monaco and Inter.

Gaitan has always cut a happy figure at the Estadio da Luz and, unwilling to push for a move, will only be available if his buy-out clause is met.

The player's agent says that total is €35m and it must be offered before a departure from Benfica can even be considered by his client.

Jose Iribarren, speaking out just a week before the January transfer window swings open for business, told Portuguese daily Record: "Whoever wants to buy him will have to talk to the president of Benfica and meet the clause.

"He will only leave for the value of the clause."

Iribarren's words are likely to be music to Benfica's ears, with the Portuguese giants reluctant to lose Gaitan in the January transfer window.
